My First Post

For those of you reading this welcome to my blog. My name is Laura and I'm a freshman at James Madison University. The idea to write this blog came to me from someone I'm really close to, and since I love to write I figured I'd give it a shot.

The first thing I feel the need to talk about is the title of this blog. Ubiquitous means all incompassing; universal, and due to the fact that I have no intention of narrowing this blog to any one topic I figured it was pretty fitting. My goal is to not only share/vent about aspects of my personal life, but to incorporate anything and everything that I deem interesting, whether it be politics (I'm a political science major so I love politics) or the lateset Hollywood gossip (Sandra Bullock is supposedly dating Ryan Reynolds). For these reasons, and the fact that it sounds a lot more unique than "Diary of a College Girl" which was my first idea, I have chosen the title Ubiquitous.

My goal is to use this first blog as an opportunity to introduce myself. As I mentioned earlier I am currently a freshman at JMU. My plan is to major in Political Science and eventually attend law school. I'm an avid writer and hope to update this blog as often as possible, although with the stresses of college I'm not sure how often that will be.

I am the oldest of four kids so I have what I like to call "oldest sibling syndrome". For me this means being  the maternal sister who seems to somehow always end up with all of the responsibility. I'm sure that there are others older sisters out there that can relate! But at the end of the day I love being in a big family and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Everyone at some point is forced to face some adversity. Mine has been my struggle with endometriosis. This is a disease that consists of chronic abdominal pain that at times just makes me want to scream. During my first semester of college I went to the emergency room three times, had multiple doctors appointments, was given an inaccurate diagnosis on multiple occassions, and eventually had surgery to diagnose the issue. The purpose of sharing this is not only to give me the opportunity to vent, but to hopefully help other women in this situation. Us Endo girls have to stick together :)

My political affiliation...I'll save that for another time.

My impression of college thus far is that while extremely stressful at times (I averaged three hours of sleep exam week and got addicted to caffeine), it is an experience that is priceless. Not only have I learned alot and met a lot of interesting people, but I've had the opportunity to truly grow up. Being independent and on my own has changed the way I live my life, and has helped me to mature. Not only this, but in college you experience things that can't be experienced anywhere else, but I'm not going to get into that now.

To conclude this post, I just want to say that you can expect something completely different everytime I write. My goal is to not only keep things interesting for my readers, but to challenge myself by writing about numerous different topics. So if there's ever anything that you're interested in reading about, or something you want to share feel free to comment. I hope that you've enjoyed what you've read thus far and that you will continue to follow. Until next time thanks for reading!
